Dr. Ignacio Melero is Professor of Immunology and co-head of Immunology and Immunotherapy at the University of Navarra, and a principal investigator at CIMA (Centro de Investigación Médica Aplicada), leading multidisciplinary teams working in cancer immunotherapy. He is also a Corresponding Academician at the Royal National Academy of Medicine. Dr. Melero started out in biomedical research as a resident of immunology at the Hospital Universitario de la Princesa (Madrid), and his doctoral thesis focused on identifying and studying natural killer cell receptors. His work obtained the Outstanding Doctorate Award. In 1994 he joined BMS as a researcher in cancer immunotherapy, leading to pioneering publications on co-stimulation of antitumor immune responses and the use of immunostimulatory monoclonal antibodies.
