James S. Jansen is currently the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at Creighton University. Prior to this position, James was a partner at McGrath North Mullin & Kratz PC LLO from September 2003 to September 2011. In this role, they would advise and assist clients in legal matters impacting day to day business decisions ranging from guidance in internal investigations to advocacy in regulatory, civil and criminal matters. James also counseled individual and corporate clients in diverse legal matters, including commercial disputes, employment discrimination claims, contract disputes, and trade secret protection.
James' experience also includes serving as Douglas County Attorney for Douglas County, NE from January 1991 to September 2003. During this time, they were elected four times (1990, 1994, 1998, and 2002) and served as the General Counsel for Nebraska's largest county. In this role, they represented the Douglas County Board of Commisioners and other elected officials in all legal matters pertaining to the administration of county government, including civil litigation and related matters. James also supervised a publicly funded office consisting of Criminal, Civil and Juvenile Divisions comprised of 35 attorneys and a support staff of 25 employees. Lastly, they served as chief law enforcement officer with responsibility for prosecution of all felony and domestic violence cases in Douglas County, as well as all cases before the Seperate Juvenile Court.
James S. Jansen graduated from Creighton University School of Law with a JD and from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BS in Education in the field of math. James also attended Omaha Westside High School.
