Gerry Lewis-Jenkins retired in April 2021. She had been with COPIC since 1991 and held various positions before being named Chief Operating Officer in 2014. In this role, she focused on market growth and expansion, legislative activities, and the oversight of the Information Technology, Marketing and Communications, Sales, and Underwriting departments as well as the operational areas of the Patient Safety and Risk Management department.
Ms. Lewis-Jenkins also oversaw COPIC Financial Service Group, an independent insurance brokerage and consulting firm that is a wholly owned subsidiary of COPIC. In addition, she was responsible for the business that COPIC wrote in expansion states and assessed new products, expansions, and possible acquisitions.
Before joining COPIC, Ms. Lewis-Jenkins served as Executive Director of Humana Health Plans of Colorado. She also has a background as a registered nurse, with more than 15 years of experience in clinical and hospital management.
Ms. Lewis Jenkins currently serves on the board of Craig Hospital, having recently been its Chair. She has also served on the board of Pinnacol Assurance and the Advisory Board for Securisyn Medical, a start-up medical device company. Her experience also includes serving on several other boards of healthcare organizations such as Platte Valley Medical Center, a community-owned, nonprofit hospital; Think About It Colorado, a public awareness campaign focused on patient safety; and SharedHealth, a technology subsidiary of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee. She also served on the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Committee on Governance and was the past Chair of the board of directors for the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO).
Ms. Lewis-Jenkins is a past Fellow of the Physicians Insurers Association of America and previously served on its Marketing and Activities Committees. She also served as Chair of the Community Advisory Board of the Center for Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Colorado and was part of the Advisory Board for the Regis University Health Services Administration Graduate Program and the Susan G. Komen Alumni Committee.
Ms. Lewis-Jenkins brings ethics, respect, and integrity to the Boardroom. Her strengths include strong communication skills, a very deep and wide understanding of health care (clinical and business), strategic thinking, and external collaborations. Her Board experience has included serving on finance, investment, nominating and governance, patient safety/quality, compliance/risk, and executive committees. She has served as Chair of most committees (except finance and investment) as well as Board Chair.
Ms. Lewis-Jenkins earned a degree in Healthcare Administration and a master’s degree in Business Administration.
