Tara Newman is currently the Director at the Constitutional Rights Foundation. Prior to that, they worked at the California Department of Justice from March 2008 to September 2021, where they were Deputy Attorney General in the Health, Education & Welfare Division. Tara also served as Chairperson of the Black Employee Advisory Committee from 2018 to 2021.

Tara Newman attended the University of California, Los Angeles for their undergraduate degree in communications studies. Tara then attended Columbia Law School for their law degree.
