Maria Bastidas-Spence is a community board member at Conserv. Maria previously worked as a preventive conservator at Museo Colonial - Museo Santa Clara from April 2015 to July 2018. In this role, they were responsible for planning and executing the collection care program to ensure the preservation of the collection exhibited and stored in two national museums. This included conducting collection care activities focused on environmental monitoring and control, storage of collections, IPM, disaster planning, housekeeping, and remedial treatments. Maria also co-ordinated collections management activities advising on storage materials and transport, packaging, elements of display, installation and de-installation of exhibitions.
In 2018, Maria led the reorganisation project of the new stores for Museo Colonial, rehousing the entire collection. This was a successful project that maximised the storage space and capacity, allowing for collection growth, and minimised the risk of damage to the collection with no impact on the project delivery date.
Maria Bastidas-Spence holds a Master's Degree in Museums, Galleries and Contemporary Culture from the University of Westminster. Maria also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Restoration and Conservation of Art from Universidad Externado de Colombia, as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Advertisement from Politécnico Grancolombiano.
