Karel Citroen has over 16 years of experience in the municipal markets. Karel started their career as a Lawyer at the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets in 2001. Karel then worked as a Consultant at Ernst & Young from 2002 to 2003, where they designed compliance plans for financial institutions and executed structured finance transactions. From 2004 to 2005, Karel worked as a Legal Counsel at Dexia, where they defended the company in lawsuits and advised on corporate legal issues. Karel then joined National Public Finance Guarantee as Vice President Portfolio Surveillance from 2006 to 2015. Currently, Karel is the Head of Municipal Credit Research at Conning, a position they have held since 2015. In this role, they are responsible for overseeing municipal research.
Karel Citroen received an LL.B Law & LL.M. degree from the University of Amsterdam between 1995 and 2000. Later, from 2005 to 2007, they pursued an MBA degree in Finance, General at the Yale School of Management.
