Mary Jo Cagle, MD, became chief executive officer for Cone Health in June 2021. She is responsible for realizing the strategic vision of the organization as set by the Cone Health Board of Trustees. Previously, Cagle served as chief operating officer for Cone Health. She joined Cone Health in 2011 as executive vice president and chief quality officer.
Cagle received her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham and her bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, South Carolina. She completed a chief medical officer fellowship through the Health Management Academy.
Cagle was named to Modern Healthcare’s Women Leaders: 10 to Watch List for 2021. She has been named a "2021 Power Player by the Business Journal." Cagle is the North Carolina Healthcare Association’s 2017 Clinical Leadership Award recipient and the National Association of Professional Women 2013-2014 Professional Woman of the Year.
She serves on the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 Testing Surge Workgroup, the Health Equity Board for the North Carolina Healthcare Association Center, and the Reading Connections Board. Cagle is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Chief Medical Officer Fellowship of the Health Management Academy.
