Joseph Spera currently serves as the Director of Technology for Public Safety at Temple University and has held the position of CALEA Assessor Team Leader since November 2013, conducting on-site inspections for accreditation. Spera previously worked at Drexel University from March 2008 to October 2023, where notable achievements included co-founding the Drexel University Police Department and the Public Safety Communications Center, and securing CALEA accreditation, making Drexel the first university to achieve communications accreditation from CALEA. Prior roles include Police Lieutenant and Sergeant at the Philadelphia Police Department, where Spera was responsible for uniform patrol and emergency 9-1-1 training, as well as serving in the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant in Security Forces. This extensive career is supported by education including a Master of Science in Information Systems from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Information Technology Management from TUI University.
