Erin Johnson Schmitz is a seasoned museum professional currently serving as the Director of Collections at the Colorado Railroad Museum since January 2024. Previously, Erin held the position of Director of Visitor Services at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum from August 2021 to January 2024, and served as both Assistant Director and Curator of Collections at the Museum of Western Colorado from May 2015 to February 2021. As a grant reviewer for the Institute of Museum and Library Services in early 2018, Erin contributed to the assessment of applications for the FY2018 Museums for America grant program. Additional experience includes roles at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, City of Lakewood Colorado, History Colorado, and the Hotel De Paris Museum. Erin's educational background includes a Master of Arts in Museology from The Johns Hopkins University, alongside dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Anthropology and History, and a Certificate in Human Resources Management from Cornell University.
