Dr. Melanie Johnson has a diverse range of work experience in various leadership positions. Dr. Melanie currently serves as a Member Board of Trustees and Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee at the Greater Houston Partnership since June 2020. Dr. Melanie is also the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors at the Texas Southern University Foundation Board since April 2015 and a Board Member at HCA Healthcare since January 2016.
Dr. Johnson has held significant leadership roles in several organizations. Dr. Melanie served as the President and CEO of Collaborative for Children since July 2018, leading a large team in early education quality. Similarly, they were the President and CEO of The Health Museum: John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science from February 2015 to July 2018, overseeing all aspects of the museum.
Prior to these roles, Dr. Johnson worked as the Director of Education at Space Center Houston from August 2009 to October 2015, where they directed curricula and instructional deliveries in support of NASA. Additionally, they served as the Faculty Development Director at The Art Institute of Houston from January 2008 to April 2009, providing instructional leadership and training in various disciplines.
Dr. Johnson's early work experience includes being the Faculty Chair of Developmental Studies at Galveston College from January 2006 to January 2008 and focusing on Diversity and International Leadership Experience at Professional Focus from 2008 to 2017. Dr. Melanie has a primary leadership interest in global and diverse educational leadership.
Dr. Melanie Johnson began their education in 1986 at Auburn University, where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in International Business/Trade/Commerce. Dr. Melanie completed their undergraduate studies in 1990. Afterward, they sought further education and attended the University of Houston from 1995 to 1998, achieving a Master's degree in Hospitality Management. Continuing their academic journey, Dr. Johnson enrolled at Texas Southern University in 2001 and completed their studies in 2005. Dr. Melanie obtained an Ed.D. in Education, specializing in Curriculum and Instruction.
