Valerie Altounian, CMI, currently serves as a Senior Medical Animator and Illustrator at Cognition since March 2023. Prior to this role, Valerie worked for the American Association for the Advancement of Science from July 2013 to February 2023 as a Senior Scientific Illustrator, contributing to the weekly journal Science by creating original 2D and 3D illustrations and infographics for various media. Valerie’s experience also includes an internship at theVisualMD in 2013, where segmentation of scientific volume data and assistance in producing scientific visualizations were key responsibilities. In 2012, Valerie was a Research Fellow at the RIT Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, producing an educational video on alcohol's effects on the brain for Yale University's Forensic Drug Diversion Clinic. Valerie earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Medical Illustration from Rochester Institute of Technology, completing the degree in 2013.
