Mickey G. Lai has worked in a variety of roles since 2007. Mickey G. began their career as a Child Care Assistant Coordinator at the YMCA of Silicon Valley, where they worked until 2011. In 2011, they became a Student Resident Firefighter at UC Davis, and in 2009 they were a Basketball Operations - Player Development for UC Davis Athletics. In 2013, they worked as a Basketball Coach for MVLA School District and as a Coach and Assistant Director for Bald Eagle Sports Camps. From 2014 to 2017, they were a Basketball Coach for CoachUp, and in 2017 they became a Teacher for Fremont Union High School District. In 2018, they became a Teacher for Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District, and from 2014 to 2018 they worked as an Instructional Assistant for the same district.

Mickey G. Lai obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics & Sociology from the University of California, Davis in 2013. Subsequently, they obtained a Mild/Moderate Teaching Credential in Special Education and Teaching from National University in 2019.
