Jay Bancroft serves as a City Council Member for the City of Newark, Delaware, since August 2020, contributing to local governance. Bancroft has extensive experience in entomology and ecology, having worked as an Entomologist at USDA-ARS and the University of Delaware from 2010 to 2017, focusing on invasive and beneficial insect research and quarantine management. Additional roles include teaching upper division and graduate ecology classes at the University of New Haven, conducting research as an Ecologist at USDA-ARS from 2002 to 2008, and analyzing fisheries stocks as a Biometrician for the State of Delaware. Early career experience includes a role as a software engineer for ITT Industries at the Naval Research Laboratory and fieldwork with the Wilderness Classroom team on the Amazon River. Jay Bancroft holds a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Connecticut, an MS in Entomology from Kansas State University, and a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder.
