William D. Paiva

William D. Paiva, PhD, is Executive Director of Oklahoma State Universities Center for Health Systems Innovation (CHSI). He stood up CHSI with Cerner CEO and OSU alum, Neal Patterson. The Center is transforming rural and Native America health. CHSI has grown from one person to 24 full-time employees and increased the operating budget from $250,000 to $2.5 million. Within CHSI, the Institute for Rural Care Delivery Innovation focuses on innovative care delivery models, and Institute for Predictive Medicine focuses on analyzing a clinical database with for over 63 million patients covering 16 years.

In addition, Dr. Paiva is Managing Partner of the Oklahoma Life Science Fund (OLSF). OLSF is a $30 million venture fund making investments in health care companies. Over his career, OLSF’s portfolio companies have raised over $400 million in venture capital funding, closed over $2 billion in corporate funding, and realized exits over $1.5 billion. In addition, Dr. Paiva was a partner with Sevin Rosen Funds, a $2 billion fund and was a venture partner at Chisholm Private Capital Partners, a $100 million fund.

Before that, Dr. Paiva served as Senior Vice President at PreferUS Health Care of Shanghai, China, deploying spine, orthopedic and cardiac centers throughout China. He also served as a management consultant at PRTM and was an investment banking associate at JP Morgan in New York.

William holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Oklahoma and an MBA from Dartmouth College's Amos Tuck School of Business, and completed an international finance program at the London School of Business.
