Kara Sokol has a diverse range of work experience. In 1997, they started as a Veterinary Assistant and Clinic Coordinator at Lisner Animal Hospital. From 2006 to 2007, they worked as a Communications & Membership Coordinator at the Keweenaw Peninsula Chamber. Kara then became the Promotion Committee Executive Chair at Main Street Calumet from 2006 to 2015, where they were involved in promotions, social media, and event planning. From 2007 to 2015, they served as the Editorial Director, Social Media Manager, and Managing Editor of Magazines at Michigan Technological University, gaining skills in organizational voice and creative writing. In 2014, they took on the role of Magazine Editorial Director, Editor in Chief, and Editorial Director for 'Michigan Tech Magazine' and 'Michigan Tech Research' as a freelancer. Lastly, since 2015, Sokol has been the Director of Communications for the City of Ferndale, Michigan, overseeing various communication, marketing, and community engagement projects.
Kara Sokol obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English from Oakland University, completing their education from 1998 to 2001. Kara then pursued a Master's degree in English-Writing at Northern Michigan University between 2003 and 2005.
