Karin Hung

Director, Strategic Initiatives, Planning & Development at City of Burnaby

Karin Hung has a diverse work experience in the field of urban planning and development. Karin started their career as a Planning Assistant at BC Parks, where they conducted research and updated management plans for provincial parks. After that, they worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Waterloo, focusing on planning education. Karin then joined the City of Burnaby, where they held multiple roles over the years. Karin started as a Planning Assistant, providing support in managing development applications and land acquisitions. Karin later became a Zoning Planner, responsible for interpreting zoning bylaws and managing rezoning applications. As a Development Planner, Karin managed various development projects and oversaw community planning and development inquiries. Karin was also the project manager for the award-winning "Lougheed Town Centre Core Area Master Plan." In their most recent role as a Senior Development and Urban Design Planner, Karin led a team of planners and processed numerous development applications in the city. Currently, they hold the position of Director of Strategic Initiatives, Planning & Development at the City of Burnaby.

Karin Hung holds a Master of Arts degree in Planning from the University of Waterloo, which they completed in 2003. Karin also obtained a Diploma in Urban Land Economics (DULE) from The University of British Columbia in 2009, specializing in Real Estate Management. In addition, they have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from The University of British Columbia, which they completed in 2001. Karin also obtained a certification in CPTED Level 1 in 2010, although the institution from which they obtained it is not specified.
