Carlos Pinto Coelho

Senior Research Engineer And Quantitative Researcher at Citadel Securities

Carlos Pinto Coelho has a diverse and extensive work experience in the fields of research and development, quantitative analysis, and machine learning. Carlos currently works at Citadel Securities as a Senior Research Engineer and Quantitative Researcher, where they develop and optimizes machine learning and simulation pipelines for alpha and strategy research. Carlos also researches and implements new features and solvers, as well as data exploration and reporting tools. Carlos previously worked at Microsoft as a Principal Applied Scientist, where they led a large-scale project applying deep learning to search, ranking, and machine reading comprehension. Carlos took the project from ideation to the initial stages of production and contributed to the design of the architecture for its large-scale deployment. Before that, Carlos was a Manager of Quantitative Development and Research Scientist at Quantlab Financial, LLC, where they managed projects, people, and hiring activities in addition to their role as an individual contributor. Carlos also proposed, designed, and implemented new features and improvements to internal data analysis tools and production trading code. Prior to that, Carlos worked as a Research Scientist at Cadence Design Systems, where they researched parallel numerical algorithms for circuit simulation and solved performance and scalability problems in existing code. Carlos began their career at MIT as a PhD student, focusing on developing fast boundary element algorithms for the simulation of microfluidic and micro-electromechanical devices. Carlos also worked as a Scientist at AltraBroadband and Ansoft Corporation, contributing to the design and implementation of system-level simulator architecture and developing algorithms for analyzing noise in oscillating systems.

Carlos Pinto Coelho pursued a strong educational background in the field of electrical engineering and computer science. Carlos began their education at Colégio Planalto from 1990 to 1994. Carlos then moved on to Instituto Superior Técnico, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, from 1994 to 1999. Carlos continued to pursue their education in the same field at the same institution, completing a Master's from 1999 to 2001.

Carlos further enhanced their knowledge and expertise by pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 2002 to 2007.

In addition to their formal education, Carlos Pinto Coelho has also completed a certification course called ARPM Bootcamp at ARPM - Advanced Risk and Portfolio Management. However, specific details regarding the month and year of obtaining the certification are not available.
