Chief Homicide Division at Circuit Attorney's Office

Mary Pat Carl began their career as an Assistant State's Attorney at the State's Attorney's Office in St. Clair County, IL in 2002. Mary Pat then moved on to the Circuit Attorney's Office in 2003, where they served as an Assistant Circuit Attorney for 14 years. During this time, they successfully prosecuted high-profile and complex cases, supervised a team of attorneys, and first-chaired over 80 jury trials. In 2017, they joined Husch Blackwell as a Partner, utilizing their expertise as a litigator to win cases. After four years, they transitioned to Lindenwood University as a Title IX Coordinator, promoting and enforcing Title IX policies and procedures. In 2021, they took on a new role as an Assistant State Attorney at the Madison County State's Attorney's Office. Currently, they hold the position of Chief Homicide Division at the Circuit Attorney's Office, which they started in 2023.

Mary Pat Carl attended Incarnate Word Academy from 1991 to 1995, receiving a high school diploma. Following that, they enrolled at DePaul University from 1995 to 1999, earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. From 1999 to 2002, Mary Pat Carl attended Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, obtaining a Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
