Amila Tharaperiya Gamage, Ph.D., is a Principal Engineer at Ciena since June 2022, previously serving as a Senior Software Engineer at Cisco from September 2015 to June 2022. Academic experience includes roles as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Waterloo from January 2012 to April 2015, assisting in courses such as Algorithm Design and Analysis, and Digital Computers. Prior to that, Amila worked as a Project Assistant at the Asian Institute of Technology, where responsibilities included preparing and marking admission tests, and held a Solutions Architect position at Dialog Telekom, focusing on designing communication solutions and leading projects like the Nenasala initiative. Early career experience includes an internship at ZTE Corporation, providing hands-on training in telecommunications systems. Amila holds a Ph.D. in Wireless Communications from the University of Waterloo, a Master's in Telecommunications Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor's in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Multimedia University.
