Dr. Whitney White has more than 25 years of experience researching and developing amorphous fluoropolymers and polymer optical fiber (POF).
Prior to founding Chromis Technologies, he was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories and OFS Laboratories, where he was the principal inventor of the fluid-pressure extrusion method of manufacturing POF. He also studied the fundamental aspects of POF transmission properties and intrinsic optical properties of fluorinated optical polymers. At Chromis, Whitney leads an R&D team that has developed numerous novel amorphous fluoropolymers for applications in optics, gas separations, and semiconductors.
Whitney is the author or co-author of 8 technical articles on POF, as well as 37 other articles on fundamental aspects of polymer physics and low-temperature physics. He is an author or co-author on numerous patents in the fields of amorphous fluoropolymers and POF.
Whitney earned his Ph.D. (Applied Physics) and M.S. (Electrical Engineering) degrees from Stanford University. He is a summa cum laude graduate in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University.
