Peta Tangiwai is an experienced communications professional currently serving as the Manager of Engagement and Communications at the Department of Internal Affairs (NZ) since August 2023, also holding the position of Acting Executive Director of the Survivor Experiences Service. Prior roles include Principal Communications Advisor at Stats NZ, where Peta designed a brand refresh for the Māori Business Unit, and Senior Press Secretary at the Green Party, overseeing communications for the Māori and Pasifika Caucus. Peta has also worked with the New Zealand Labour Party, focusing on Māori electoral communications and engagement, and has held multiple positions within the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, contributing to iwi engagements and administering the Provincial Development Fund. Earlier experience includes a role as a Policy Advisor at Manatū Taonga and administrative support within the Māori Party. Peta holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Political Science and Government from Victoria University of Wellington.
