Teresa Magan has a diverse range of work experience spanning several companies and industries. Teresa began their career at Diageo in 2002 as a Project Coordinator in the Facilities department. After that, they worked at KPMG UK as a Project Administration/Team Secretary on a temporary basis. Teresa then moved to KPMG Ireland, where they first served as a Personal Assistant in Tax and later as an Assistant Manager in the Audit function, specifically as a Group Business Administrator.

In 2009, Magan joined Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as a Senior Financial Analyst, managing budgets for various disciplines and special projects. After working there for two years, they transitioned to Chorus NZ Limited in 2012. At Chorus, Magan held multiple roles, including Fixed Asset & Investment Analyst, Pricing Analyst, Property Data Specialist, Co-location Data Specialist, and Senior Infrastructure Operations Specialist. In their most recent position, they were the Infrastructure Operations Delivery Manager.

Teresa Magan obtained a Certificate in Sports Centre Management from Christchurch Polytechnic in 1996. Prior to that, they pursued a National Certificate in Journalism at Aoraki Polytechnic in 1994.
