Gizachew Demissie, PhD, PEng, is a Water Resources Engineer at Centerra Gold Inc. since September 2022, specializing in managing mine site water balance and utilizing GoldSim software for data management and reporting. Previously, Gizachew held roles at Skeena Resources Limited and Agnico Eagle Mines Limited, where essential work included developing models for water balance, water quality, and designing critical water structures. Earlier experience as a Hydrogeology Technician and Junior Hydrogeologist provided foundation in conducting hydrological studies and inspections. Furthermore, Gizachew contributed to research and analysis during internships with the BC Energy Regulator and the City of Calgary, enhancing understanding of pipeline incidents and developing risk assessment tools for water supply systems. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Civil Engineering from The University of British Columbia and a Master's degree in Hydroinformatics from IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, with additional training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
