Mathew Oakes currently serves as a Community College Network Research Fellow at Campus Compact, an organization focused on enhancing the public purposes of higher education. In addition to this role, Mathew has been a Professor at Rock Valley College since January 2010, where a comprehensive range of courses is offered at the two-year community college. Mathew also contributes as National Faculty at CAST, an organization known for developing the Universal Design for Learning framework. Academic qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Illinois Chicago, a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature from The University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Canadian Studies from the University of Toronto.
