Abbey Townsend

Senior Director, Global Clinical Development North America at Celerion

Abbey Townsend has a diverse work experience spanning over 15 years in the clinical research industry. Abbey started their career as a Clinical Trials Assistant at Health Decisions in 2007, where they were responsible for managing study supplies and maintaining study websites. Abbey then moved on to become an In-House Clinical Research Associate, where they managed regulatory start-up packages and maintained the Trial Master File.

In 2010, Abbey transitioned to the role of Clinical Research Associate at Health Decisions. In this role, they served as the primary point of contact for study-related questions and provided training to study site staff. Abbey also performed various site visits, including qualification visits, initiation visits, monitoring visits, and close-out visits.

Abbey advanced within Health Decisions to become a Senior Clinical Research Associate, where they took on additional responsibilities such as presenting information during investigator meetings, participating in department initiatives, and assessing and signing off CRA trainees.

After leaving Health Decisions in 2012, Abbey joined Celerion as a Clinical Trial Lead I. Here, they oversaw the clinical activities of the study start-up process and tracked the progress of site activities. Abbey then progressed to the role of Senior Clinical Trial Lead, where they managed study budgets, independently managed study vendors, and assisted with candidate assessments for the Clinical Trial Lead position.

Abbey returned to Health Decisions in 2016 as a Clinical Project Manager I. In this role, they led cross-departmental teams to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of clinical studies. Abbey served as the primary project contact for clients and other stakeholders and was responsible for analyzing and presenting clinical study performance data.

In 2019, Abbey joined Celerion as an Associate Director of Clinical Project Management. Abbey further advanced within the company to become the Director of Global Clinical Development for North America in 2022.

Prior to their clinical research experience, Abbey had internship experience at North Carolina State University, where they worked on DNA extraction and sequencing projects.

Overall, Abbey Townsend has a comprehensive background in clinical research and has held various roles with increasing responsibilities throughout their career.

Abbey Townsend completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Psychology at North Carolina State University from 2003 to 2007. Later, from 2008 to 2010, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Clinical Research at Campbell University.
