Gert Van Bortel has extensive experience in emergency response and fire protection, currently serving as a Member BIG at the Brandweer informatiecentrum voor gevaarlijke stoffen and Vice President of the European Academy of Fire Protection. Since April 2017, Gert has held several positions, including Member Referat 09 for Vereinigung zur Förderung des Deutschen Brandschutzes e.V. and multiple roles within the German Chemical Industry Association VCI. In a significant role at BASF since December 2000, Gert is the Global Head of Emergency Response and has managed operational safety services and fire departments at various locations. Gert has also served as the ICE Chairman for Cefic, is a Fire Officer in Zone Rand, and lectures at several institutions. Educational qualifications include a Master of Engineering in Electro-Mechanics from the University of Antwerp and multiple degrees in fire prevention and HazMat advising.
