D.R. Bryan was born in Rocky Mount, NC and has lived in Chapel Hill since 1998. He is married to Frances Bryan and is the father of two children, Emily Aycock and Paul Bryan. He is a graduate of East Carolina University and Wake Forest University School of Law. He is the founder of Bryan Properties, Inc. a company that specializes in building walkable, mixed-use communities including Southern Village in Chapel Hill. The company has been named developer of the year in the Research Triangle and Charlotte regions.

DR believes that service to the community is an important part of one’s life. He has been involved with a number of organizations, most recently serving as President of the North Carolina chapter of The Nature Conservancy and Chair of the Orange County Economic Development Commission.
