Lama Aoudi

Senior Data Scientist at Carbon Arc

Lama Aoudi has a diverse work experience spanning different organizations and roles. Their most recent position is as a Data Scientist at Carbon Arc since 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Research Scientist at the MIT Climate & Sustainability Consortium (MCSC) from October 2021 to June 2022, focusing on sustainable supply chains and decarbonizing transportation modes.

Lama also served as a Graduate Research Assistant at MIT.nano from February 2021 to October 2021, where they collaborated with Tec de Monterrey and local industries in Monterrey, Mexico, conducting market studies and literature reviews to support cross-institutional collaborations.

From August 2018 to September 2021, Lama worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the MIT Energy Initiative, developing computational frameworks and conducting experiments on electrification planning using computer vision ML tools.

They also have teaching experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the course Introduction to Sustainable Energy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from August 2020 to January 2021, and as an Engineering Learning Assistant for the Freshman Introduction to Engineering course from August 2015 to May 2017 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Lama has interned at the World Resources Institute as an Energy Access Explorer Intern, contributing to the expansion of a web-tool, conducting research on load-clustering methodologies, and supporting the development of outreach materials from June 2020 to September 2020.

Additionally, they worked as a Grid Deployment Consultant at Beyond The Grid PLLC in collaboration with PowerGen Renewable Energy Company, designing microgrids and conducting village-level load analysis in Niger from June 2019 to August 2019.

Lama has also worked as a Technology Deployment Engineer at Sigora International Inc., where they performed R&D for smart meter technology and designed electrical distribution systems for electric mini-grids in Haiti from November 2017 to July 2018.

Their early research experience includes working as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Tami Bond Research Group at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where they created a high-resolution global inventory, and as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Wen-Tso Liu Research Group, investigating syntrophic metabolizers and conducting batch experiments on anaerobic digestion.

Lastly, Lama worked as an Engineering Associate at ExxonMobil, optimizing a soil vapor extraction system and creating a centralized database for well behavior analysis in Brooklyn, NY from May 2016 to August 2016.

Lama Aoudi completed their high school education at Bahrain Bayan School from 1998 to 2013. Lama then pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, graduating in 2017. Later, from 2018 to 2021, they attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where they earned two Master of Science degrees. The first MS degree was in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, while the second MS degree was in Technology and Policy.
