David Dunbar has extensive experience in the legal field. David started their career as a Law Clerk at the Federal Court of Appeal from 1990 to 1991. David then worked as a General Counsel at the Canada Border Services Agency from 2004 to 2008, where they gained extensive knowledge in border issues, import and export regulation, and controls. From 2010 to 2018, they served as the Senior General Counsel at Innovation, Science and Economic Development, where they led the in-house legal group and oversaw industrial support loans, grants, contributions, and intellectual property matters. David then became the Executive Director and Senior General Counsel at the Competition Bureau Canada from 2018 to 2020, where they provided strategic legal advice and handled litigation services in various areas, including mergers, abuse of dominance, misleading advertising, and consumer protection. Recently, they worked as the Director of Legal & Compliance at Weston Foods, where they provided compliance expertise with a focus on competition, privacy, and anti-bribery & corruption, along with contract review and HR advice. Currently, they hold the position of Of Counsel at Caravel Law since 2022.
David Dunbar completed their undergraduate education at Queen's University from 1982 to 1987, where they earned a BA (hon) with First Class honors in English and History. David then pursued further education at Western University from 1987 to 1990, obtaining a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with distinction in Law. In addition, David obtained the Canadian Securities Course certification from the Canadian Securities Institute in February 1994.
