Hajar Kacem

Director, Regulatory Compliance at Capital Power

Hajar Kacem has a comprehensive work experience spanning over 15 years. Hajar started their career as an Information Officer at Service Canada, where they answered customer inquiries and stayed up-to-date with current events and product updates. Hajar then worked as a Complaints Investigator at the Canadian Transportation Agency, where they investigated and responded to complaints related to air travel. During their time there, they also served as a Junior Economist, evaluating and assessing statistical and economic data in the transportation industry.

Hajar then transitioned to TransAlta, where they held the roles of Operations Compliance Analyst and Senior Advisor, Operations Compliance. In these positions, Hajar developed compliance guidance and communications, facilitated compliance training, and maintained knowledge of ISO rules and reliability standards.

Moving forward, Hajar joined Liberty as a Senior Program Manager, Compliance and Performance, responsible for managing compliance policies and controls. Hajar later became a Senior Manager, Regulatory Compliance, overseeing regulatory compliance monitoring and drafting FERC applications.

Their most recent position is with Capital Power, where they hold the role of Director, Regulatory Compliance. In this role, they are responsible for creating and implementing regulatory compliance programs for energy trading and market compliance across North America.

In addition to their corporate roles, Hajar has also worked at the University of Ottawa, where they served as a Teaching Assistant, assisting in the presentation and delivery of economic courses. Hajar also worked as a Student Mentor, providing guidance and support to graduate students in their educational and professional goals.

Hajar's early work experience includes roles as an Assistant Manager at Guess Store, where they provided exceptional customer service and oversaw store operations, and various positions at the University of Ottawa, including Community Advisor and Project Officer, where they organized and presented activities, conducted research, and provided customer service.

Throughout their career, Hajar has demonstrated strong regulatory compliance skills, expertise in economic analysis, and a commitment to customer service and education.

Hajar Kacem began their education journey in 2005 at the University of Ottawa, where they pursued a Joint Honours Bachelor of Sciences degree in Mathematics and Economics. Hajar completed this degree in 2010. Following their undergraduate studies, Hajar continued their education at the University of Ottawa and obtained a Master's degree (MA) in Economics from 2010 to 2012.
