Monique Sendze

VP, IT & Chief Information Officer at California State University, Chico

Monique Sendze is the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO). Dr. Sendze has over 23 years of experience leading technology initiatives in state and local government, private tech industry and higher education, having served as Director of Information Technology, Director of Technology Strategy, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Technology and Innovation Officer. Prior to coming to Chico State, Dr. Sendze was Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Deputy Chief Operating Officer.at the Colorado School of Mines.

As the VP/CIO at Chico State, Dr. Sendze oversees the university's central information technology unit, which is responsible for academic, administrative, and research technology services and support. She provides strategic vision and leadership as the University moves toward a more centralized, risk-focused, and equitable IT operation. She is responsible for developing policy and prioritization of resources in the rapidly changing information technology environment, while also fostering the development of innovative, agile, and adaptable solutions for learning, teaching, research, and data-driven decision making.

As VP/CIO Dr. Sendze leads an expanded and integrated portfolio, including Creative Media and Technology (web services, classroom tech, video production, photography), Computing and Communication Services (enterprise systems and cloud-based services; data networking and security; infrastructure and telecommunications), Enterprise Applications and Data Services, Administrative Service Center, Information Security, IT Support Services, Institutional Research and Data Services, and the Office of the CIO.

Dr. Sendze earned a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Grand Canyon University with a concentration in Organizational Development. She is passionate about developing information technology organizations that maximize the productivity and customer focus of resources and people in support of education, research, and administrative services. Dr. Sendze was a 2021 CIO of the Year ORBIE Awards finalist for her outstanding leadership, management effectiveness, and business value created through technology innovation. She is also a 2016 Info-Tech CIO Award Winner in Recognition of Outstanding Achievements in IT Business Vision. Apart from her technical leadership responsibilities, Sendze has led efforts around organizational change, culture development, leadership development, talent management, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
