John McCarthy

Critical Incident Commander at Calgary Police Service

John McCarthy has extensive experience in emergency response and law enforcement, currently serving as a Critical Incident Commander with the Calgary Police Service since 1999. In this role, McCarthy has led operations during critical incidents such as hostage situations and high-risk warrant services. Prior to this, McCarthy held the position of Duty Staff Sergeant, focusing on operational command of high-risk incidents and mentoring patrol sergeants. McCarthy began a career with the Public Safety Unit in 1997. Before joining the Calgary Police Service, McCarthy worked as a Paramedic with Edmonton EMS from 1985 to 2000, having earned a degree in Paramedic from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in 1986.
