Alison Barrett MBE has been instrumental in leading the British Council’s initiatives in cultural engagement and education across various regions, primarily focusing on East Asia and India since joining the organization in August 2011. As Country Director for India and previously Regional Business Director for Cultural Engagement, Barrett has managed significant portfolios in the arts, education, and English language development, impacting a vast number of countries. Prior roles include Global Head of English for Education Systems, where Barrett provided strategic and academic leadership on a global scale, and various director positions overseeing large-scale educational projects aimed at enhancing English language teaching and teacher education in partnership with governments and NGOs. Educational qualifications range from a Master of Arts in TESOL from the Institute of Education, University College London, to specialized certificates in partnership brokering and program management.
