Charlie Garnett-Benson, PhD, serves as the Executive Director and Translational Medicine Development Portfolio Lead at Bristol Myers Squibb since September 2019, focusing on developing new therapies for cancer, particularly leading the Relatlimab/LAG-3 team. Previously, Charlie held various roles, including Senior Scientific Director and Scientific Director, contributing significantly to the advancement of therapies in oncology. Charlie co-chairs the DEI Committee at the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer as of January 2024 and founded BeyondTheCodon, an initiative aimed at engaging students in biology. Additionally, Charlie was a tenured Associate Professor at Georgia State University, conducting research in tumor immunology and leading departmental research efforts. Prior experience includes positions at the National Cancer Institute and teaching roles at Morehouse College and Georgia State University. Charlie earned a PhD in Immunology and Molecular Pathogenesis from Emory University.
