Brendan Kearney has a diverse work experience in the field of emergency medical services (EMS). Brendan started their career in 1984 at Boston EMS, where they worked as an EMT and steadily advanced their career. Brendan served as a Paramedic and Deputy Superintendent before being promoted to Superintendent of Field Support in 2004. In June 2010, they became the Superintendent in Chief, the second-in-command of the department. In this role, they oversaw all divisions of Boston EMS and had the authority to act as the Chief of Department when needed.

After leaving Boston EMS in 2016, Brendan joined Cataldo Ambulance Service Inc. in 2017 as the Senior Director of Operations Support Services. Brendan worked there until 2019 before joining the Brewster Ambulance Service as the Senior Director of Operations. In 2020, they took on the additional responsibility of being the Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs at Brewster Ambulance Service.

In addition to their work in EMS, Brendan has also been involved with the International Association of EMS Chiefs. Brendan became a member in 2008 and served on the Executive Board from 2012 to 2017.

Brendan Kearney has a diverse education history. In 1978, they began studying Criminal Justice at Stonehill College, where they earned their Bachelor's degree in 1982. In 2010, Brendan attended the National Fire Academy, completing a Certificate program in Advanced Leadership Issues in EMS. Continuing their education, they completed a Certificate of Completion in General and Flag Officer Homeland Security Executive Seminar at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2012. Additionally, in the same year, they pursued Collaborative Leadership in Homeland Security at UCONN, though no degree name is specified. Lastly, Brendan studied Public Administration at Bridgewater State University, with the specific degree of MPA (Master of Public Administration) not indicating the start and end years.
