Sophie Knowles

Learning Design Specialist at BrainPOP

Sophie Knowles has a diverse work experience. Sophie is currently working as a Learning Design Specialist at BrainPOP. Prior to this, they worked at New Visions for Public Schools for almost 9 years in various roles. Sophie was a Curriculum Developer and Professional Learning Manager, where they developed instructional strategies and facilitated training sessions for staff. Sophie also served on the diversity, equity, and inclusion committee. Before that, they worked as an Instructional Specialist, where they focused on literacy and provided professional development for teachers.

Sophie also has experience in the education sector at The City University of New York (CUNY), where they worked as a CUNY Start Core Math Teacher, creating a curriculum for incoming college students. Sophie also worked as a Cooperative Learning Math Teacher at the CUNY Start Program.

In addition to their educational roles, Sophie has also held positions outside of the education field. Sophie worked as a Research Intern at Crips Ile-de-France, where they evaluated prevention and health education initiatives. Sophie also had a Fulbright U.S. Study and Research Scholarship at Fulbright Center Finland.

Finally, Sophie started their career as a Math Teacher at the NYC Department of Education. Sophie worked there for four years before pursuing other opportunities.

Sophie Knowles completed their education with a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Education and Globalization from the University of Oulu in the years 2012 to 2016. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Mathematics Education from Brooklyn College, during the period of 2007 to 2010. Sophie also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in The Classics from the University of North Carolina Asheville, which they achieved from 2003 to 2006. Additionally, they have a background in Visual and Performing Arts, having studied at the Interlochen Arts Academy, although specific dates for this period are not provided.
