New to Boston from sun and sand, Tonya Alanez joined the Globe in January 2020 to cover federal courts, state courts and legal affairs. She was a reporter and writer on the South Florida Sun Sentinel's 2019 Pulitzer-Prize winning team which won for its coverage of the Parkland school massacre. Alanez has covered criminal courts, statehouse legislative sessions, Rolex girls, hurricanes and a Killer Clown. She has also witnessed and reported on two Death Row executions. Alanez attended the University of Oregon where she was named "outstanding graduate" in journalism news/editorial sequence.
