Volker Martin Schmiedel is an accomplished medicinal chemist with extensive experience in oncology and infectious diseases. Currently serving as a Principal Scientist I at Boehringer Ingelheim since October 2020, Schmiedel previously held the position of Associate Principal Scientist. Prior to this, Schmiedel completed postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley under the supervision of Prof. Thomas Maimone. Doctoral studies were conducted at Freie Universität Berlin from May 2013 to March 2018, focusing on innovative synthetic strategies and natural product analysis under Prof. Mathias Christmann, supported by prestigious PhD scholarships. Additional research experience includes roles as a Research Assistant at Freie Universität Berlin and undergraduate positions at BASF and ASCA GmbH. Educational credentials include a Ph.D. and Master of Science from Freie Universität Berlin, alongside a Bachelor of Science from the same institution.
