Ron Wilkins is an accomplished musician and educator with extensive experience in various roles within the jazz and big band music scene. Currently serving as the bass trombonist for the Count Basie Orchestra since February 2023, Wilkins has also been a trombonist with the Birdland Big Band since October 2017, and a member of the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band since June 2015. In addition to performing, Wilkins is a multifaceted musician, recognized as a trombocalist, composer, producer, and educator, with a notable album titled "Trombocalist" released in August 2021. Wilkins has held teaching positions, including as an adjunct instructor at Texas State University and the University of Texas at San Antonio, while also being an active member of the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra. With a Master’s degree in Music from Texas State University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio, Wilkins continues to contribute to the music community since beginning a professional career in music in 1980.
