RODGER RINEY is a native St. Louisan, growing up in Kirkwood and graduating from the University of Missouri with a Civil Engineering degree and an MBA. In 1969, he joined Edward D. Jones & Co. in St. Louis and later became a partner. In 1980, he left to enter the relatively new discount brokerage industry by starting Scottrade.

Over the years, Scottrade opened 500 branch offices and became one of the larger online trading firms. Scottrade won the J.D. Power award for Highest Online Investing Satisfaction 11 times and was included on Fortuneā€™s ā€œ100 Best Places to Work Forā€ list six times.

In October 2015, Rodger was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, which resulted in an examination of strategic alternatives for the firm. Five months later, Scottrade announced that it would be sold to TD Ameritrade and in September 2017, the sale was completed.
