Dr. Causey has been involved in various aspects of clinical test development for 15 years and an innovative biologist for much longer. Historically, she was among the first academic researchers to use genetic information to trace phylogenetic relationships of many species. She left academia and turned her efforts to developing high throughput, next generation DNA sequencing for cancer detection. She later applied her laboratory experience to autism genetics at SynapDx, a company focused on identifying an autism diagnostic signal in leukocyte mRNA. She continued her laboratory work at Good Start Genetics (acquired by Invitae), developing clinical tests for detection of deleterious sequence variants (e.g. Fragile X). She holds a BS in Biochemistry from University of Minnesota, a PhD in Molecular Genetics from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and conducted postdoctoral research in the Department Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University.
