Astrid Alfaro, PhD, serves as the Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs at BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. since August 2019, providing regulatory support for gene therapy products in the US and internationally (LATAM and APAC). Prior to this role, Astrid was a Senior Regulatory Affairs Associate at Premier Research, offering consultancy in various therapeutic areas, and held a contractor position in Regulatory Affairs Program Management at Genentech, where contributions included supporting post-approval programs and routine regulatory submissions for biologics. Astrid gained valuable experience through an internship at Genentech in oncology, alongside earlier roles as a Contract Editor at AJE and a Research Associate at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, a Certificate in Regulatory Affairs from UC Berkeley Extension, and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Florida.
