Atul Malhotra

Atul Malhotra is Kenneth Moser Professor of Medicine and chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at the University of California at San Diego. He served as President of the American Thoracic Society from 2015 to 2016. Dr. Malhotra was formerly an Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Associate Physician of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care and Clinical Chief of the Division of Sleep Medicine of the Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Malhotra is board certified in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Malhotra’s research is in the areas of ICU, Pulmonary, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and other areas of respiratory biology. Dr. Malhotra is widely published with over 250 publications and approximately another hundred chapters, reviews and editorials and has won numerous honors and awards including, the 2008 Presidential Citation of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Malhotra has served as member of NIH study sections for National Heart Lung and Blood Institute and National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease. He is a member of the editorial board of Chest, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and Sleep, where he is also Associate Editor. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada.

Dr. Malhotra received his B.S. degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and his M.D. from the University of Alberta in 1992. He completed a fellowship in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
