Joe Schmidt is a seasoned educator and administrator with extensive experience in social studies education. Currently serving as the Director of Programs at the Bill of Rights Institute since March 2022, Joe also teaches as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Maine and is an Author for Corwin Press, with a forthcoming book on civil discourse in the classroom. Joe's prior roles include Social Studies Specialist and Acting Coordinator of Secondary Education for the State of Maine's Department of Education, and K-12 Social Studies Leader for the Madison Metropolitan School District. Joe's background in education is further underscored by leadership positions in various educational councils and a solid academic foundation, including a master's degree in Education from Viterbo University and a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
