Marcelo Arenas possesses extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, currently serving as Engineer Manager Delivery and Principal Tailings Projects at BHP since August 2019, with previous roles including Senior Geotechnical Engineer. Prior to BHP, Marcelo worked at Wood as a Geotechnical Engineer A and at SNC-Lavalin, where responsibilities included management and coordination of civil-geotechnical projects, design of tailings facilities, and environmental impact assessments. Early in the career, Marcelo was an Engineer II at Knight Piesold, focusing on geotechnical report preparation and project coordination. Marcelo holds a degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on structures, construction, and geotechnics from Universidad de Chile, has completed diplomas in project management and applied soil mechanics, and is currently pursuing an MBA at Universidad de Chile.
