Joe Romriell has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Joe is currently serving as the Chief Technology Officer at Beyond Pulse since January 2023. Prior to this, they founded Actop, Inc. in 2012 and served as the Founder and CEO/CTO until November 2020. At Actop, they built a prototype for a video-based social network on AWS with iPhone and Android endpoints.
From June 2005 to November 2010, Joe worked at Sorenson Communications, Inc., where they held the position of Vice President of Engineering. Joe led the engineering department, oversaw product development, and played a crucial role in the transition of the company to become the largest provider of Telecommunication Relay Services in the United States. Joe also directed the growth and expansion of products, transforming the organization to an agile/scrum methodology.
Before joining Sorenson Communications, Joe worked at Sorenson Media from March 2000 to June 2005. Joe initially served as the Director of Engineering, overseeing video codec development and later taking on additional responsibilities for all media products. Eventually, they were asked to manage the entire engineering department and successfully grew the department by hiring and developing talented individuals.
Prior to that, from May 1998 to March 2000, Joe worked as a Project Lead for Video Codec Development at Sorenson Vision, Inc. Joe led the team responsible for the development of Sorenson Video 2 and managed ongoing optimizations and improvements. Joe had previously joined Sorenson Vision as the Senior Software Engineer in March 1996, where they played a key role in rewriting and optimizing the research code into a production-ready video codec. This effort resulted in Apple choosing to integrate Sorenson Video into QuickTime.
Joe began their career at Intel Corporation in October 1993, working as a Software Engineer on Intel's Indeo Video research and development team. During their tenure, they developed new video compression algorithm methods and implemented production-ready code in C, making minor tuning and algorithm changes to improve video quality in IVI 3.

Joe Romriell obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering from Utah State University, where they studied from 1987 to 1992. Joe further pursued higher education at the same university and earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering from 1992 to 1994. In addition to their formal education, Joe Romriell has obtained several certifications throughout their career. Joe received certification as a Certified Executive Coach from the Center for Executive Coaching in September 2022. Prior to that, they completed a course on Data Science: Bridging Principles and Practice from the University of California, Berkeley in October 2020. Furthermore, they acquired knowledge in Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy through a course offered by the MIT Sloan School of Management in January 2018.
