Ellen Behrens

Ellen Behrens received her M.A. in Counseling from Marquette University and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Michigan State University. She has been a Utah licensed psychologist and an Associate Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Master’s Program at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. She teaches graduate courses in Group Therapy, Ethics in Counseling, Tests & Measurement, Internship, and Clinical Assessment and provides supervision for master’s level counseling trainees working in a variety of treatment settings.

Ellen has worked with teenagers and families at many levels of care, including outpatient, inpatient, and residential treatment, as a therapist, clinical director, and consultant. She serves on the Board of the Utah Mental Health Counselors Association. She is the Chief Editor for the Journal of Therapeutic Schools and Programs, a founding member of the research committee for the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs, and a Research Scientist for the Center for Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare at the University of New Hampshire. She has authored numerous articles on clinical outcomes for youth in residential and transition programs.

Ellen helps guide BestNotes with clinical best practices, evidenced-based approaches, quality assurance and is the master librarian for much of clinical content.
