Teri Bruening

VP & CNO, Patient Care Services, Methodist Hospital & Methodist Women's Hospital at Nebraska Methodist Health System

Teri Bruening, MSN, RN-BC, CNE, has been in health care since 1985. As a licensed registered nurse since 1986, she has filled many roles in nursing.

Since 2009, Bruening has led the patient care division as the vice president at Methodist Health System and is the chief nursing officer for both Methodist Hospital and Methodist Women’s Hospital.

In her role as vice president, Bruening has led Methodist to achieving a third Magnet Designation, exemplary NICHE (Nurses Improving the Care of Hospital Elders) designation, Stroke and Chest Pain certification, expanded Omaha’s only SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program, implemented Palliative Care Inpatient program, introduced AgeWise - a gero-palliative nurse residency program, and a new graduate nurse residency program.

Prior to joining the Methodist family, she provided leadership at Alegent Health (CHI) Bergan Mercy Medical Center as the Chief Nurse Executive from 2005 - 2009. She holds specialty certification in gerontological nursing and nurse executive leadership.

Bruening is a member of Creighton Federal Credit Union board of directors, Visiting Nurse Association board of directors, and several boards with the Methodist Health System. She also participates in advisory boards at the Clarkson College, Nebraska Medicine, Nebraska Wesleyan, and Nebraska Methodist College.

Memberships of professional organizations include American Organization of Nurse Executive, America Nurses Association, Nebraska Nurses Association, and Nebraska Organization of Nurse Leaders.

She is an active member of St. Pius X Parish and volunteers as a Eucharistic minister and lector. She is also a "Big Sister" for an 11-year-old in the Omaha community as a volunteer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands.
