Ernie Gillis

Director Of Content & Media Services at Berklee College of Music

Ernie Gillis has a diverse work experience in the fields of music education, web development, and sound engineering. Ernie began their career as a Senior Web Developer at Berklee College of Music, where they designed and developed multimedia web experiences for the Berklee Library. Ernie was also responsible for deploying the institution's first Learning Management System (LMS) and managing the LAMP stack administration. Ernie then moved on to become the Manager of Learning Resources Web Development, where they led a team responsible for web design and multimedia content supporting the Berklee Library and Archives. During this role, they also served as the project manager for the Berklee Oral History Project series. Ernie later became the Director of Content & Media Services, overseeing a team that generated marketing, archival, and curricular materials at The Library and Berklee Archives, as well as managing the technology infrastructure unique to these facilities. Prior to their work at Berklee, Ernie owned and managed Gillisonic Sound Services, providing recording, mixing, mastering, and production services in the Greater Boston Area. Ernie also worked as a Manager for Boston Skyline Records, where they directed the operations of an independent classical record label and refined the shipping workflow for more efficient distribution of products.

Ernie Gillis holds a Master of Liberal Arts degree in Extension Studies - Digital Media Design from Harvard University, which they obtained from 2018 to 2023. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Production & Engineering from Berklee College of Music between 1997 and 1999. Ernie also attended St. Francis Xavier University from 1995 to 1997, where they pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Music with a focus on Jazz Performance Studies before transferring out. Ernie has obtained various certifications, including the ALM Dean's List Certificate for Academic Achievement and a certificate in Front-End Web Development, both from Harvard University.
