Alex N. Gecan is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience in public safety reporting. Currently serving as a Senior Reporter at Berkeleyside since March 2023, Gecan previously held a reporter position at Marin Independent Journal from July 2022 to March 2023. Prior to that, Gecan worked as a Staff Writer for Gannett's USA TODAY NETWORK, specifically for the Asbury Park Press from May 2016 to July 2022, and as a Staff Writer for The Advocate from January 2015 to May 2016. Earlier experience includes reporting for The Middletown Press with Digital First Media from February 2013 to January 2015, as well as roles as Web Editor and Associate Editor with Renaissance Publishing, LLC from April 2011 to August 2012. Gecan started a career in journalism as a Fellow at the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism from August 2010 to May 2011, after completing studies at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.
